The Road Not Taken

The poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost is a poem that everyone can relate to. It is such a well known poem, yet extremely confusing.  It's only four stanzas but it has so much depth in each word.  There is a literal meaning and a figurative meaning.  The literal meaning is that the speaker is standing in the woods at a fork in the road.  Both paths are equally worn, and takes one and says that he will take the other another day. The figurative meaning can be interpreted in different ways. When I read this poem I feel like he's trying to find his own path in life and not worry what other people are doing with their lives.  People encounter dilemmas similar to this all the time.  They have to choose the "right" way without even knowing the outcome of either path.  This poem has a lot of imagery in the first two stanzas.  Frost does a good job giving detail about the woods. The author shows no remorse for his decision he made many years before. He uses this poem to show a defining moment in his life.

  1. I agree, I think that the meaning of this poem is to show that there is always more than one path to take and you have to choose the right path, the one that is best for you.
